Amid mixed weather predictions Brigantine Community was thrilled to have nice, breezy, comfortable temperatures last Saturday just in time to visit the Farmers Market. Crowds gathered around the gazebo as Josh Devore belted out his sensational tunes doing an outstanding job entertaining the masses.
There were 140 children at the Children’s Tent making flags to celebrate Independence Day.
Local favorite Denise Hakanson made a Mexican Breakfast at the Chef’s Tent using the following ingredients purchased from the market — eggs from Gail’s Farm, sweet sausage from Ernest and Son Market, onions, cilantro, scallions and tomatoes from Monteleone Farms and Jah’s Organic Farm. Denise cooked all of these and served them on Mexican corn chips. Denise had her compost box with her to fill and take home to her compost pile. She teaches us a good lesson about not wasting a thing.
There were 83 Sport Fanatic entries for the Trivia Contest. Doug Houey earned the only perfect score of 10 and won a $25 gift certificate to Laguna.
Everyone registered for the Rain Barrel Workshop should meet at the Library steps on 15th Street. If you have not paid, please bring $20. Everything is supplied for you and you will take home your finished rain barrel. If you are not registered and would like to participate, we may have a spot for you. There will be a blueberry pie contest, which draws intense competition. Pies must be submitted at the Demonstration Tent no later than 9:30 a.m., as the judging will begin promptly at 9:35. Late entrants should email brigantinefarmersmarket@gmail.com.
The Skins 42 band will perform, and they get the crowd pumped and energized. They are a perfect mix of old rock along with the new sound that our youth thrive on. They have been influenced by bands such as The Doors, The Beatles, and blues by B.B. King and Muddy Waters which they turn into their own new sound that their generation loves.
