A new ECHL team in Portland, Maine has narrowed its potential nickname down to five finalists and one of them sure is wild.
Wild Blueberries fought its way past over 3,800 other submissions and now fans have a chance to vote it into hockey history.
(Mariners, Puffins, Watchmen and Lumberjacks are the other finalists, but let’s be honest, they aren’t as great as Wild Blueberries).
According to a press release from Portland Hockey LLC, which owns the new team after it relocated from Alaska, Wild Blueberries are the official berry of the state of Maine and 10 per cent of all blueberries grown in North America come from there. Fun fact.
